Business Tax Receipts run through September 30th and are to be renewed by September 30th of the following year or are held delinquent and are penalized a percentage as prescribed by law.
Any business operating anywhere in Collier County (even inside city limits of Naples, Marco Island or Everglades City) must have a county business tax receipt. The business tax receipt is for the privilege of engaging in a business activity either for profit or non-profit.
Obtaining a business tax receipt requires filing an application at our Business Tax Receipt Office, 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive. For all commercial businesses located in unincorporated Collier County, you will need to obtain zoning certificate approval from the Business Center Zoning Front Desk, also located at 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive, and a fire inspection from your local fire department district. In some instances, permits and certifications are required from other state or county agencies. If you are using a business name, you must register the name under which you do business with the Department of State, Division of Corporations at www.sunbiz.org (850-245-6058).
Business tax receipt fees vary with the kind of business. Business tax receipts run through September 30th of the following year and are to be renewed by September 30th or are held delinquent and are penalized a percentage as prescribed by law. We send out renewal notices on June 30th. Revenue from business tax receipts is distributed to both incorporated municipalities and the Collier County Board of Commissioners for the unincorporated area of the county, according to population.
Are there any exceptions to the business tax receipt requirement? Yes, there are a few. If you think you qualify, ask us about exceptions for certain charitable groups, veterans, invalids and senior citizens, over 65.
